Greystoke partnering on AI growth zone for North Lincolnshire

Greystoke is partnering with North Lincolnshire Council on a proposal to bring a UK Government-designated AI growth zone to the area. The project will drive £15bn of new private investment and 1.5 GW of new AI computing power.
Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone (NLAIGZ) will support four new AI training data centres, with AI industry clusters developing around them, on more than 1,350 hectares of developable land. The first of these AI data centres – Humber Tech Park – was granted planning permission in August 2024.
NLAIGZ will see nearly 10,000 new construction jobs, 1,200 new jobs on site and a further 4,000 industrial jobs safeguarded through supply chain opportunities. The proposed AI growth zone would sit in an area which generates 20% of the UK’s total electricity, including 27% of its offshore wind.
NLAIGZ will help support established local industries and innovative low-carbon energy infrastructure with AI, while significantly boosting the national economy and UK leadership in AI. The investment and AI capability will also support the decarbonisation of the economy.
One of the proposed data centre sites is on unused land at British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant, and NGLAIZ will commit to the UK Steel Charter, using UK-produced steel to deliver the project where commercially feasible.
The project enjoys strong support from local higher education and skills partners and will help to revitalise an industrial region, using brownfield sites and undeveloped industrial opportunities.
Proximity to advanced manufacturing, low-carbon energy generation, agri-food, logistics and the defence sector will help build integrated supply chains and sector-leading research and development opportunities.
